Allen Dreher - Representing Highlands Ranch

Allen Dreher, a Colorado native, has looked out for Highlands Ranch residents as a member and chairman of the Metro District for the last six years. Allen wants to take that experience to the State House.

The press has reported favorably on Allen's candidacy over the last several months; brief descriptions and links to the press articles are listed below.

Dems make strong showing at Lone Tree forum (Highlands Ranch Herald - 10/26/2006)

Mary Power of the League of Women Voters moderated a candidate forum at the Lone Tree Civic Center.

“..;asked … candidates what distinguished them from their opponent.” “Allen Dreher … said he brings six years of governing experience with the Metro District in Highlands Ranch and knowledge of the Highlands Ranch community as well as experience building two businesses.”

“… what experience qualified the candidate for the job.  “Dreher was direct. "While I was on Metro District we lowered the mill levy," he said. "How often do you hear that? We will save money for the people of Highlands Ranch. To do that I worked with a spectrum of opinions and differences of opinion, but I was able to cross over and come to a solution."”

“… how they would work to counter the polarization of political parties.  Dreher pointed out that a legislator has to be open to communication first. "You have to keep your eyes open and your ears open," Dreher said. "I'm willing to take that step across the aisle."”

“… health care legislation.  Dreher advocated a statewide pooling network for medications.”

Enter The Halloween Dragon (Highlands Ranch Herald - 10/19/2006)

“Andrew and Teresa Schuy have been scaring the pants off visitors at their home on Waldenwood Drive for six years. Altogether they have designed and constructed haunted houses for 17 years …”  “The haunted house is all about the kids, but adults often go through a couple times to get all the details.”  “After the construction, Teresa Schuy holes up with a Bible to create a tract for the kids. Several will come with youth pastors.”  “[This years] sneak preview will raise money for Allen Dreher's campaign for House District 43.”.

A Day in the Life (Highlands Ranch Herald - 09/28/2006)

It's kitchen table democracy, says Allen Dreher supporter Mike Jones. Jones, Dreher and Dreher's campaign treasurer Teresa Schuy are folding and stapling, and occasionally mutilating, door hangers to be distributed in neighborhoods

Dreher [is a] former advertising salesman who built a printing business, sold it and ventured into real estate. I've served on the Metro District for six years," he said. "I want to continue to represent Highlands Ranch in the Legislature."

Dreher opposes eminent domain for commercial use … He supports responsible gun ownership … proposes a state-wide insurance policy, possibly made more economically feasible by banding with other states, to cover the more than 770,000 Coloradans without health insurance … wants to maintain the quality of Douglas County schools and work to make higher education affordable for the graduates … [goals for Highlands Ranch are to] work out a reasonable option for Colorado Highway 470 and allowing special districts to do the job for which they were formed … Schools from kindergarten to colleges need more money, money promised by Referendum C … start increasing funding for schools … by 5 to 7.5 percent in the first year … With (Colorado's) higher education rated as 48th nationally in funding we have a ways to go and any increase would make an impact.

YourHub.com Q&A (YourHub.com - 09/25/2006)

Allen responds to questions from YourHub.com:  “…biggest issues facing Douglas County now: Maintaining the high quality in our K-12 school system, working to make higher education affordable to our high school graduates …  the effects that tolling C-470 would have on Highlands Ranch in a negative way, securing open space to maintain the county's character, and mass transit extensions. All of this while maintaining a reasonable, low tax burden on our citizens.”

And then there were seven … (Highlands Ranch Herald - 09/07/2006)

“[the full slate of 20 directors voted] In a secret ballot, Gary Herbella, Gary Dani, Nancy Jensen and Allen Dreher were selected from contested regions Tuesday night and joined Nancy Smith, Ryan Stuart and Rick Owens on the consolidated Metro District board.”  “The directors approve the master budget that provides for the contract with Littleton Fire and Rescue; outdoor recreation programs; open space and trail management; installation and maintenance of parkway landscaping; building parks, roads, drainage and trail systems; and installation of parkway landscaping, traffic signals and street lights.”

Election runs smoothly with eSlate (Highlands Ranch Herald - 08/17/2006)

[Allen] Dreher won [the primary election] with 61 percent of the vote.”   “Dreher is a six-year member of the Metro District board of directors. He said he wants to put his years of service to Highlands Ranch to use in the Legislature.”.
